Currently, there are approximately 14 scouts and 3 active adult leaders. Under the current leadership, for the past 3 years more than 50% of our scouts have achieved Eagle Rank. Nearly 60% of our scouts reaching Life achieve Eagle status.  The nation's average is 2%.

During most campouts, parents attend as part of the "Geezer Patrol" to help wherever needed and to enjoy the beauty of camping outdoors.  Along with parent involvement, we are able to provide a quality program that will produce tomorrow's leaders.  Our scouts learn leadership skills, social responsibility, community involvement, good citizenship and conflict resolution.

We believe, and support, a boys' run organization and work continuously to keep that goal in focus.

Our scout leadership team consists of Scoutmaster Shelton Fowler and Asst Scoutmasters:

Bob Doehling, Roy Murphy, Michael Freeman, Steven Donnelly and Bob O'Brien.  Our Charter Organization Representative is Michael Freeman.

Scout Master Shelton Fowler, Jr. brings years of experience from Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. As a BSA trained leader, Mr. Fowler is another excellent example of "Be Prepared".  Mr. Fowler's tenacity for preparedness, consistency and happy spirit are qualities that are truly embraced by our scouts.

Asst. Scoutmaster Bob Doehling (pictured to the left) has been as active part of scouting for many years.  " I started out in Cub Scouts when I was in 2nd grade and lived in Chandler Arizona (a suburb of Phoenix ). When I started Webelos my family moved across town to Glendale Arizona . I finished my Webelos year winning 1st place in the District level “Pinewood Derby”. The picture of me up in a tree (below) is when I first started Boy Scouts in 6th grade at age 11. I was part of Troop 425.
This was an exciting 2 years that I spent with Troop 425. Some of the highlights were snorkeling in Mexico , hiking the Grand Canyon, desert camping, and Camp Geronimo (our summer camp). At summer camp I excelled in all swimming and canoeing activities, made “Pro-Marksman” in shooting, and “Jr. Bowman” in archery. By the end of those 2 years I earned almost all of my skill awards, a couple handfuls of merit badges, and just made “Life Scout”.

In 1979 my father decided to retire from the air force as a fighter pilot to become an airline pilot, so after he finished his training and I finished 7th grade my family moved to Lilburn Georgia. I tried to join a local Troop, but it just was not the same. Unfortunately after about 4 months or so I ended my scouting career.
I have always enjoyed the outdoors fishing and hunting. After my junior year in high school I did a 23 day mountaineering course through the Colorado Outward-bound program, where a lot of my orienteering and first aid skills from scouts was greatly tested. Still to this day I credit the skills and lessons I learned as a scout as what made me into the person I am today. I hope now as a leader I will be able to share my knowledge with the boys and young men that come through troop 500, and will be able to see many of them achieve the rank of an “Eagle Scout” that which I will never be able to claim
." -Bob Doehling

Asst. Scoutmaster Roy Murphy (pictured below on left) has long been an active part of scouting and has held a plethora of leadership positions. As a BSA trained leader, Mr. Murphy also serves as a unit commissioner for other BSA groups in our area.  Mr. Murphy brings his wisdom, patience, experience and kindness to help our scouts develop as great citizens.

Asst. Scoutmaster Michael Freeman is a Woodbadge graduate and part of four generations of scouting with an extreme love for the outdoors. A graduate of UGA, Mr. Freeman was born and raised in Georgia and has been living in the Lawrenceville area for ten years. Mr. Freeman has earned such scouting awards as Scoutmaster Award of MeritScoutmaster's Key, Leader's Training award and more.
